I am looking at monetizing my site soon, so this was very useful for me. Just a note on donations (the only monetization strategy I have on my site at present). I only ask for donations on the home page of my DualFeeds plugin (for WordPress). I'm not going to change the world - but I think free plugins are a reasonable cause. I'm not expecting many to donate, but I can't see any harm in asking. However, I find there are many people asking for donations for simple posts - I can't believe that anyone actually donates for those. Great overview.
